Johan Cruyff dies of cancer at the age of 68

Former Ajax, Barcelona and Netherlands legend Johan Cruyff died at the age of 68 after a long battle against Cancer. According to Cruyff’s official website, the Dutchman died in Barcelona where he was surrounded by his family and friends.

Cruyff’s loss is a sad one for world football as he is regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. He was awarded with 3 Ballon d’Or honors and won three European Cup in a row with Ajax from 1971 to 1973.

Back in February earlier this year, Cruyff had given the fans a positive message where he claimed that his treatment was working well and he is on a road to recovery. Keeping the context to football, Cruyff had said: “At the moment, I feel like I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that is not finished yet. But I am sure that I will end up winning”

Apart from being a great player, Cruyff’s impact on the game became even bigger when he managed Barcelona and introduced the concept of total football, which we now a day know by the name of tiki-taka football.

The concept at Barcelona’s La Masia is regarded as Cruyff’s vision of dominating the world football. Cruyff often cited that playing football is simple, but playing simple football is the toughest thing one can do.

We take this moment to remember the genius of Johan Cruyff and all the magical achievements of his career which will forever be edged in our memories.
