Can Manchester City upstage Real Madrid?

Nights like Champions League semi-final was the main reason for Sheikh Mansour to invest in Manchester City’s project back in 2008. Despite winning the league twice in last 8 seasons, City owners are desperate for the Champions League success.

Tonight will be the first time Man City contests a Champions League semi-final, however, as expected they will come up against a tough opponent in Real Madrid. Despite knowing the difficulty of task in hand, Manuel Pellegrini’s team will be confident about their chances.

City have been in good form recently and they have couple of players which even Real Madrid will be wary of. In Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, City have couple of deadly attackers who will be supported by David Silva and Yaya Toure.

Vincent Kompany’s form and fitness will be a key factor tonight as the City skipper has looked short of match fitness since returning from his calf injury. Nicolas Otamendi knows what it is like to beat Real Madrid during his time with Valencia, so he could start alongside Kompany tonight.

Real Madrid will have all the best players in each of the positions which would make City’s task all the more harder. Under Zinedine Zidane, Madrid have been a free flowing side and will look to exploit any weakness in City’s defense tonight.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be the main man for City to contain if they want positive result against the La Liga giants. However, Gareth Bale will be the player City needs to be the most wary of. Bale knows Premier League all so well and had played against Man City since their gulf takeover.

Midfield battle could be the key in this game and this is where Real Madrid hold the edge with Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro providing craft and steel to Madrid’s midfield. City do have resources to contain them but will find it tough getting past them.

Manchester City vs Real Madrid Prediction

There is no denying City’s outstanding run in the Champions League this season, however, Real Madrid will be a challenge too tough to conquer for The Citizens. Pellegrini will have previous grudges to settle against Madrid after he was fired by the Los Blancos back in 2010.

City indeed can match Real in terms of squad strength, however, with their European experience and pedigree I expect Real Madrid to come out with a positive result, and by that I mean a victory. Predicted Scoreline – Man City 1-3 Real Madrid.
