Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of Mats Hummels until the year 2021. The news was confirmed by Bayern’s official website who revealed that the Munich born defender will return to Allianz Arena 9 years after leaving on loan.
Hummels had initially joined Dortmund from Bayern’s academy and went on to spend 8 successful seasons at Signal Iduna Park. In that time, Hummels went to captain Dortmund and become one of world’s best defenders.
Earlier this year, Hummels revealed his desires to quit Dortmund and join Bayern Munich. The Bavarians acted swiftly and have agreed a deal today to the sign the current Dortmund skipper.
Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spoke highly of Hummels transfer and believes he will be a massive player for them in coming seasons. Rummenigge said: “We are delighted that Mats Hummels has decided in favour of FC Bayern.
“Mats is one of the best centre-backs in the world. With him we will increase the quality in our team even further.”
Bayern Munich also completed Renato Sanches transfer earlier today on a five-year deal with transfer fee expected in the region of £27.6m (€35m). Incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti will be delighted to see both Hummels and Sanches add further quality to the German Champions.
Speaking of Mats Hummels, he was seen as the ideal transfer target for Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City as well. However, Premier League clubs were left waiting in the line as Bayern Munich once again showed their negotiation skills to complete a massive transfer before any other European giants.
