Bayern Munich have sensationally completed the signing of Benfica starlet Renato Sanches who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months.
The news was confirmed by Bayern’s website and official twitter account where they revealed a five-year contract being agreed for the player. According to reports, Bayern will initially pay £27.6m (€35m) in addition to performance-related bonuses.
The news must have come as a huge blow to Man United’s transfer hopes after The Red Devils had sent their scouts on several occasions to watch Sanches in action but talks could never move forward.
That is where Bayern must be applauded for their swift response in signing the highly rated 18-year old forward player right under the noses of Ed Woodward and Co.
Sanches is seen as the next big thing in European scene after performing admirably for Benfica this season. Despite in his learning phase he has managed 2 goals and 6 assists in 30 appearances for the Portuguese side.
Bayern are glad to snap him up right before the upcoming Euro 2016 where he is expected to make a big impact for Portugal. Sanches is a box-to-box midfield player who is capable of playing in several positions and will indeed add value to Bayern’s already talented squad.
Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented on Sanches signing and said: “Renato Sanches has been observed over a long period by Bayern.
“We are fortunate to have signedd him in spite of well-known international competition. Renato is a dynamic, combative and technically gifted midfielder who will strengthen our team further.”
