Chelsea have launched a transfer bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports from Metro.
It’s understood Antonio Conte is in the market for an attacking midfielder after Oscar completed a club record £60million move to Chinese outfit Shanghai SIPG.
Turkish-Football suggest the Blues have made a surprise January bid for Calhanoglu, with Conte increasingly keen on bringing the 22-year-old free kick specialist to Stamford Bridge.
Last month, Chelsea were watching the highly-rated Turkey international, who has been Leverkusen’s standout player this term, and he greatly impressed club scouts.
Calhanoglu to snub Man United?
Blues could come up against competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United who are also very keen on Calhanoglu.
And the midfielder even admitted it would be hard to turn the Red Devils down, telling Lig Tv: Barcelona and Manchester United are huge clubs it would be difficult to turn them down.
‘But I have not said anything about any transfers or anything of the sort.’
Chances of Calhanoglu signing for Chelsea – 2/5
A transfer to Stamford Bridge is not an impossible for either player or the club, however, a transfer if this magnitude is never sealed in January and Chelsea fans must wait until the summer before expecting to see the free kick specialist dawn the blue jersey.
