According to reports from Confidencial Colombia (via Metro), Real Madrid had accepted a whopping £78million bid from Chelsea for James Rodriguez last month but the player refused to join Antonio Conte’s side.
Reports have further claimed that James was promised a significant increase on his £10.4m-a-year salary by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, however, the Colombian chose to stay and fight for his place under Zinedine Zidane.
Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been one of the driving forces behind Rodriguez’s decision to stay at Madrid by advising the midfielder to fight for his place.
Is James chasing his Man United dream?
James Rodriguez has often been linked with a move to Manchester United and according to Daily Mirror, the Colombian has even talked with Jose Mourinho about a possible move to Old Trafford.
Mourinho and James share the same agent which has from time to time fuelled the speculation of his move to Man United.
Having rejected the idea of playing for Chelsea, if James indeed quits Real Madrid, United could make their move for the World Cup hero.
