Forget Morata – Man United “in serious talks” to complete deal for Chelsea’s 25-goals target

Romelu-Lukaku

Manchester United are reportedly in ‘serious talks’ to sign Everton forward Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, according to report from Metro.

Jose Mourinho’s side have made just one signing so far this summer in the form of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof and the Portuguese boss is not happy with the slow pace to new arrivals.

Lukaku, 24, confirmed at the end of last season that he would leave Everton this summer and Chelsea appeared to have won the race to sign the Belgian.

However, United’s protracted move for Real Madrid ace Alvaro Morata is stalling and the Red Devils have entered into ‘serious’ discussions to the 25 goals in 37 games hitman, according to BeIN Sports.

The Belgium international is currently enjoying the off-season with United star Paul Pogba and the pair were captured together in Los Angeles on Tuesday. As it stands, United could have the upper hand in negotiations given they’re expected to sign off Wayne Rooney’s move to Goodison Park.

The Red Devils are prepared to waive a transfer fee for the 31-year-old and United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is likely to use Rooney as a bargaining chip in negotiations.

The Toffees are holding out for a world record £100m for Lukaku but both United and Chelsea are optimistic that that fee can be brought down.
