After a lot of tussle and hassle about where Romelu Lukaku will play, Manchester United have now confirmed that Lukaku has joined on a five year deal. The Red Devils are believed to have agreed a deal worth an initial £75million with the Merseysiders.
The 24-year-old scored 25 goals in the Premier League last season for the Toffees just behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane 29 goals. A statement on United’s website read:
“Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed a fee with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. A further announcement will be made in due course.”
Earlier reports suggested that the Blues had matched United’s bid for the Belgian frontman, but the Premier League champions appear to have been pipped to the race for the striker’s signature. News that a £75m transfer had been agreed for the striker broke on Thursday morning but senior Everton sources denied all the claims.
United are in California to start their pre-season tour against the Los Angeles Galaxy next weekend and Lukaku, who has been on holiday on the west coast of America, is staying in the United States to most likely link up with his new team mates.
Pogba is the first United player to acknowledge Lukaku signing by posting a comment on his official Instagram page welcoming his new team mate.
