Where opinions speak louder than goals

Rodgers confirms four new deal in the pipeline to be completed before deadline

Celtic are frantically planning to sign four new players in the next 24 hours, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The news outlet claims the Glasgow giants are planning to recruit multiple new players before the Scottish transfer window slams shut and are set to spring into action in the aftermath of Thursday night’s Europa League play-off second leg with FK Sudova at Celtic Park.

The report further claimed Le Havre defender Harold Moukoudin and Premier League pair Douglas Luiz, of Manchester City, and Filip Benkovic, of Leicester City, are among those Celtic are looking to sign.

The only senior recruit of note at Parkhead this summer has been Odsonne Edouard, but he was already at the club the previous season, and fans have been frustrated at a dismal start to the campaign that has shone more light on the clear shortcomings in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Celtic clearly need a competent centre-back, and probably two if Dedryck Boyata succeeds in his attempt to depart the club. Further up the pitch, a new central midfielder is needed to replace Stuart Armstrong – Luiz would fit the bill – and a wide attacker should be recruited. Will Rodgers get the additions he clearly craves? Certainly, the manager has made his feelings clear, telling Celtic TV on Tuesday night that “our idea is hopefully to strengthen the squad” and “we’ll look at hopefully doing that over the next few days”. Should Boyata and Moussa Dembele both go, Celtic’s top brass will be doing the fans a major disservice if four players aren’t signed.
