Pulisic has got Dortmund and USA fans excited with his abilities and future potential. Amid the hype surrounding the 17-year old attacking midfielder, we take a closer look at Christian Pulisic’s playing style, weaknesses and future prospects as a professional footballer.

Christian Pulisic – A brief history

Born in the fancied part of Pennsylvania, Pulisic has previously trained with FC Porto, Chelsea, Barcelona and PSV, however, he was rejected by every club because of his fragile physical condition.

At the age of 15, he went back to his home country and trained hard to make a mark on European football. His big break came in an Under-17 Residency Program in Bradenton where Dortmund scouts spotted his talent and brought him to Germany.

Since then he has gone on to win the youth Bundesliga title and has broken in to the first team for Thomas Tuchel. Pulisic represented USA at the FIFA U-17 World Cup which ended in disappointment for the United States team but Pulisic caught everyone’s eye.

Christian Pulisic – Style of play and strength

He is a modern game’s flamboyant number 10 player who loves to dribble and take players on. Pulisic likes to be given a free role in the team as he plays with a natural flair and is dangerous in the box.

Pulisic is unpredictable in the way he uses his quick feet and close control to outsmart the defenders. Pulisic is very good in 1v1 situations where he often gets the better of his opponents and sets up his teammates to score.

Pulisic has unique technical ability, good vision and confidence on the ball which makes him an asset for whichever team he plays for. He may not have the physical power to push aside his opponents but he ends up out-thinking and outplaying them, that’s his strength.

Christian Pulisic – Weaknesses to be worked on

As stated earlier, the only aspect of the game Pulisic needs to work on is his physical strength. He often finds himself light-weighted playing against the pros of European football.

He now has started to represent Dortmund on a more regular basis thus he will need to put on some weight and gain upper body strength to go that extra yard towards becoming a great footballer in near future.

Christian Pulisic – What does the future hold?

At present, he already looks like a future star who is ready to carry his club and more importantly his country to the next level. His current contract with Dortmund runs until 2016 and we are certain to see him at Signal Iduna Park for many years to come.
